Set sail on a voyage of the imagination as we document the weirdest wonders of whimsy in this one-day workshop! Using traditional illustration techniques, we will compile our own Big Book of Bizarre Biology, all while learning about the wonderful history of scientific illustration.

One of the most important crew members of any scientific journey was the illustrator. Before the invention of photographs, it was their job to document all the incredible discoveries that were made along the way.

They had to be detailed. Precise. Careful. Clear. Concise.

But what if they went a little...crazy?

Join celebrated author/illustrator, Briony Stewart In this one-day workshop as we set sail on a voyage of the imagination. Using traditional illustration techniques, we'll document the weirdest wonders of whimsy as well as compile our own Big Book of Bizarre Biology, all while learning about the wonderful history of scientific illustration.

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Explore the Museum's Wildlife Gallery and learn how scientific illustration has helped generations of scientists.
  • Experiment with a range of illustration techniques as you document creatures from your imagination.
  • Create your own Big Book of Bizarre Biology.

Note: This is a drop-off holiday program. All participants should arrive with a drink bottle and packed lunch as they would when going to school.
