Hear how a chance public inquiry about a Crimean War sword in the Museum’s collection uncovered an extraordinary story of survival by its owner, Henry Dyson Naylor, in the infamous 1854 Charge of the Light Brigade.
Thanks to the inquiry led by the Head of History Department, Stephen Anstey, you can learn of the detective trail that pieced together the remarkable story of the sword's owner, uncovering a Western Australian’s chilling account of a battle he was lucky to survive.
The story is the only known Western Australian link to the famous British cavalry charge against overwhelming Russian forces, which left over 270 light cavalrymen men dead or wounded.
The talk will conclude with an analytical viewing of the sword.
