Design Thinking Through Objects. Bring Hidden Treasures to Life!
In this exciting full-day program, students collaborate with the WA Museum to tackle a real-world challenge using the Design Thinking process. While major exhibits often steal the spotlight, countless fascinating objects and stories remain in our permanent galleries, just waiting to be discovered.
Through this hands-on experience, students will design creative ways to highlight and showcase these overlooked treasures, bringing their stories to life and enriching the museum experience for future visitors. Guided by the Design Thinking steps, they’ll define the challenge, brainstorm innovative ideas, build prototypes, and refine their designs.
This fun, hands-on and interactive program not only brings fresh perspectives to the Museum’s collection but also empowers students to make a meaningful impact on how visitors connect with and appreciate the hidden gems of history.
Let’s uncover the stories that deserve to be seen and bring hidden treasures to life!
Only spaces for four groups available each day so book early!
Suitable for years 5-8.

Some thoughts from last year’s program.
“The workshop was very well designed with a clear student focus. Students were encouraged to engage implicitly with the materials, and this resulted in a fantastic experience for the students.
A notable highlight was the structure in which students were given freedom to explore the Origins exhibition before having the task set. This gave them freedom but also engaged them in the task later. Students engaged in a design activity but also needed to use Science, HASS and English to complete the task."
Sam, Year 8 teacher, Melville Senior High School
“Very good. Kids were engaged and able to walk around museum and see what they were improving - were able to see the real-world application of their design. Will use it in semester two to plan a program.”
Sophia, Year 5 teacher, Our Lady's Assumption School
