Workshops available from Term 1, 2026!
Learn more about our Moon, its formation and the search for water on the surface.
Students will explore the Moon and it's geology through examining objects from space in our Origins and Innovations galleries. They'll then return to Earth (otherwise known as our Learning Studios!) and use digital technologies in a challenge to search for lunar resources.
Student experience
Students will:
- Learn about the latest scientific information about the formation of the Moon
- Visit our Origins and Innovations galleries to explore collection items associated with the Moon, and consider the future of Moon exploration
- Use robotics to program lunar 'rovers' and explore the potential for this technology to further lunar research.
Ready for launch from Term 1, 2026!
Skills development
This program links to the following strands of the Western Australian Curriculum:
Year 7
Earth and Space Science
- Predictable phenomena on Earth, including seasons and eclipses, are caused by the relative positions of the sun, Earth and the moon (ACSSU115)
Science as a Human Endeavour
- People use science understanding and skills in their occupations and these have influenced the development of practices in areas of human activity (ACSHE121)
Digital Technologies
- Follow a plan designed to solve a problem, using a sequence of steps (WATPPS42)
- Safely make solutions using a range of components, equipment and techniques (WATPPS43)
Year 8
Science as a Human Endeavour
- Scientific knowledge has changed people's understanding of the world and is refined as new evidence becomes available (ACSHE134)
- People use science understanding and skills in their occupations and these have influenced the development of practices in areas of human activity (ACSHE136)
Digital Technologies
- Investigate a given need or opportunity for a specific purpose (WATPPS46)
- Produce a simple plan designed to solve a problem, using a sequence of steps (WATPPS50)
Year 9
Science as a Human Endeavour
- Advances in scientific understanding often rely on developments in technology and technological advances are often linked to scientific discoveries (ACSHE158)
All facilitated workshops are led by the Museum’s experienced Learning and Engagement team and have been curated using the Museum’s unique resources to provide a deeper learning experience in our specialist subject areas.
