Women in Sport: Stories that move us

Women's sport may be making headlines today, but its rise has been decades in the making - built on determination, innovation, and resilience.

From backyard games to national leagues, the journey of women in Australian rules football, cricket, and basketball is filled with powerful stories. That's why the WA Museum launched the Women in Sport project, capturing the personal stories and meaningful objects that are part of this evolution.

Join WA Museum curators Kylie Elston and Monika Durrer as they share stories of the ‘wicked women’ and ‘wonder women’ who challenged discrimination and devised creative ways to ensure girls and women could play the sports they love. Discover how this project goes beyond traditional collecting efforts and be among the first to see what has been uncovered.

The story of the rise of women’s sport is still unfolding and there are many chapters yet to come.
