See through the lens of the children from our WA regional communities, as we showcase the winners from the 11th annual School of the Air photo competition.

Each year, Rangelands Natural Resource Management (NRM) runs an annual photo competition for the kids who attend School of the Air (SOTA) in Kalgoorlie, Meekatharra, Carnarvon, Port Hedland and the Kimberley.

Now in its eleventh year, the annual competition engages with children and their families living in the outback of WA. It aims to raise awareness of natural resource management and further involve the next generation of land managers in having pride in our rangeland’s landscapes and our regional communities.

This year’s theme is ‘Water’. The rangelands are characterised by seemingly never-ending arid landscapes, dotted with agricultural plots and stations. Rainfall is variable and a key driver of the rangeland communities and the environment. From floods to drought, the dry arid inland to the coast and the tropics, the students captured what water means to them—how they see it, use it and enjoy it in their own parts of the vast rangelands.

The competition awards prizes for the age groups Lower Primary (Kindy, Pre-Primary, Years 1 and 2), Middle Primary (Years 3, 4 and 5) and Upper Primary (Years 6 and 7).

Visit the Old Goal exhibition space as we display the incredible winners from 2022.
