Could you be a Space Hero and survive on a hostile planet?
Explore how scientists and engineers use STEM technology in Space and discover how these space-age developments will soon become part of our daily life.
Face the challenge of repairing the space station – protect yourself from plummeting temperatures – and find drinking water on an alien planet.

Space Hero Station
Join us these School Holidays for Space Heroes – a daily series of engaging hands-on workshops and demonstrations between 10am and 1pm, exploring STEM technology here on earth, and in space.
Using your problem-solving skills, your mission will include:
- Space Station Spares – a demonstration on how to fabricate spare parts using 3D printing.
- Moon Walk or High Street – a hands-on quiz exploring technology developed by the Space Race and how we use this technology in our everyday life.
- Memory Matters – test to see how heating and cooling can affect the shape and structure of memory metal.
- Water-Water Everywhere – build filters using household items to source fresh water in space. Plus test and observe their effects on water containing different contaminants.
- It's Cold Outside – after landing on a distant planet, construct a shelter to protect yourself from the plummeting temperatures. It's a race against time as they use different materials and test their effectiveness in insulating.
- Comet Cookbook – what ingredients does a comet contain? Build an ice-cold comet from scratch and observe the effects as it burns up in the atmosphere.
