FameLab Australia 2026 national science communication competition open for entries

The Western Australian Museum will host FameLab Australia 2026, the nation’s premier science communication competition for postgraduate and early‑career STEM researchers.

Part of the global FameLab program, this event challenges emerging scientists to present their research in just three minutes, using no slides, no jargon, and relying solely on the ‘three Cs’ of Content, Clarity and Charisma.

FameLab has propelled more than 40,000 scientists worldwide into influential careers in research, media, and science communication. The WA Museum is proud to host this year’s national competition, supporting Australia’s next generation of science storytellers.

The FameLab Australia winner for 2025 was Tammy Lee, an embryologist representing The University of Western Australia. Tammy’s presentation “A-typical embryo?” showcased her research on atypical appearances and behaviours of embryos in IVF.

Tammy Lee went on to represent Australia in the FameLab International Final and was crowned the World’s Best Science Communicator at the CERN Science Gateway in Geneva.

WA Museum Director Engagement Jason Fair said:

“The WA Museum is proud to host FameLab Australia 2026, a launchpad for early career STEM researchers across industry and the research sector.

“As a science institution, we have a responsibility not only to support research, but to help the community understand why that science matters.

“FameLab supports this work by equipping emerging researchers with the skills to communicate important science with clarity, confidence and in meaningful, accessible ways, strengthening public trust in science and ensuring new knowledge can inform the big questions we face,” he said.

The winner of the national competition will represent Australia at the Cheltenham Science Festival 2027.
