Experience the new interactive digital WA AIDS Memorial Quilt to commemorating World AIDS Day 2025.

Each year on 1 December, in recognition of World AIDS Day, the WA Museum partners with WAAC (formerly WA AIDS Council) and the HIV-affected community to display the original hand-crafted WA AIDS Memorial Quilt. Now, with the continued support of WAAC and community, the Museum has brought the quilt into the 21st century by digitally capturing the stories behind the panels.

The Digital AIDS Quilt is an interactive digital display featuring interviews with family, friends and acquaintances of individuals memorialised on the original quilt. It also includes insights from subject matter experts and community voices to help build understanding.

The original quilt shares powerful stories of resilience and love in the face of adversity through the individually hand-crafted panels. The age of the quilt means it can only be on display for short periods of time. The Digital AIDS Quilt ensures the strength of human connection and community spirit developed through the original quilt can live on for many years to come.

We invite you to join us in commemorating the lives of Western Australians affected by the global HIV/AIDS pandemic at this important time of the year.
