Six decades ago the Western Australian Botanic Garden was opened in the centre of Kings Park. Much-loved for its floral displays, behind the scenes this institution also has a rich history as a scientific research hub. Discoveries made here have shaped conservation practices around the world. In this special community exhibition, WA Museum Boola Bardip celebrates the 60 year legacy of this Perth icon.
Plus, Kings Park and Botanic Garden bring the exhibition to life for one day only on Saturday 23 August. Visit Boola Bardip’s Botanical Day to:
- Engage young ones with early learning activities including a story corner, bush treasures play and colouring-in.
- Talk to Kings Park’s horticultural trainees about what it’s like to work in one of the world’s largest parks, and learn how you can apply for a traineeship yourself.
- Get hands on with botanical science, with interactive activities on plant physiology monitoring and microscope slide viewing.
- Get gardening advice from Kings Park’s experienced horticultural staff, who have plenty of tips on growing native species in home gardens and urban spaces.
