Deadly Arts and Storytelling with Derek Nannup
For many Aboriginal people, deadly means excellent or very good - and that’s exactly what this hands-on, highly interactive workshop promises to be!
This school holidays, kids are invited to explore the rich traditions of Nyoongar culture, art, and storytelling with Derek Nannup, a deadly Nyoongar maaman and local legend.
What to Expect
- Create unique sand art using traditional Nyoongar symbols and techniques
- Craft a personal message stick while learning its cultural significance as a tool for communication and storytelling
- Connect with Country through stories, symbols, and shared creativity
This immersive workshop encourages respect, understanding, and appreciation of Nyoongar culture, while nurturing creativity and personal expression.
Drop and Leave Holiday Programs
Drop and leave programs enable children and young people to experience the Museum independently, discover and learn something new in an area of interest and access materials and resources not normally available at home. All programs are managed and monitored by our experienced Learning and Engagement staff.
Don't take our word for it. Here's what some of our past participants had to say:
“It was the best holiday program ever.” Heidi 9 years
I liked making stuff and learning new stuff." Grace 11 years
“It was the best thing ever!” Diesel 10 years
“It was fun getting to learn new things alongside friends.” Mikaela 12 years
“Derek was a good teacher. It was fun!" Indy 11 Years
