Watch twelve early career researchers — Australia’s top up-and-coming science communicators — as they battle it out to be crowned the FameLab Australia 2023 winner!

FameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition, created by Cheltenham Festivals (UK). Since 2007, the competition has gone global in over 40 countries, with more than 40,000 scientists participating to date.

How does it work? No slides. No PowerPoint. No boring. To excel in FameLab, competitors need to communicate their research in simple, everyday language that everyone can understand, and do it in just three minutes. They will be judged on the 3 Cs of FameLab: content, clarity, and charisma.

To explain their research and captivate their audience, competitors can only use props that they can carry onto the stage. Of course, they can also sing if they want. Or dance. Just no slides, and no boring.

Representing universities and research institutions across Australia, the twelve 2023 finalists work across a wide field of science, ranging from astrometallurgy to genomics. You’re in for a seriously entertaining night of great science communication, while learning about the latest, cutting-edge science research from around the country. The competitors will be judged by a panel of high-profile judges and the event will be live-streamed across the country and worldwide!
