Public (Sub)Urbanisms

Great cities are defined by the quality of their public realm. From parklets to piazzas, community gardens to civic architecture, and informal spaces to public infrastructures, well planned and designed spaces/places facilitate the social, cultural and economic dimensions of urban and suburban life.

This year’s Festival of Urbanism - Perth exhibition depicts thought-provoking projects on the theme of ‘Public (sub)urbanisms’.

These projects tackle the nature, character, challenges and opportunities of creating and sustaining public (sub)urbanisms that enhance Australian cities and suburbs - not just aesthetically, but economically, environmentally, culturally, experientially, and democratically.

The Festival of Urbanism is an annual event held across the country, designed to promote research-driven discussions about the future of our cities. It is the flagship program of the Henry Halloran Research Trust, bringing together diverse voices to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping urban and regional development. 

This year's Festival of Urbanism in Perth has been co-delivered by the UWA Public Policy Institute and Perth Design Week.
