Join Reclaim the Void for this very special concert among the rugs in Hackett Hall as we celebrate Assemblage.
Enjoy this special concert with musical guests Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, as well as Reclaim the Void's very own Lucy Ridsdale!
Reclaim the Void sits at the meeting place of land art, contemporary textiles, story and culture. It expresses a shared desire for conciliation and is the collaborative recognition of country as alive, vulnerable and sacred.
Gina and Guy probably don't need an introduction. We're so delighted to have them offer their song as we assemble the rugs on Noongar Boodja. Six times winners, Indigenous Act of the Year at the West Australian Music Industry Awards, they use their music and performances to highlight one of the most beautiful and rare languages on the planet; the Noongar language of the southern corner of Western Australia.
Bringing ancient language, contemporary music, stunning vocals, poignant stories and guitar brilliance, Gina and Guy have made it their mission to become agitators for a hopeful future, by rewriting the script through song. Because the only way to address intergenerational trauma is to bring healing and invite everyone back to the campfire. You don't need to understand the words; love, loss, joy all means the same things no matter how you say it.
Reclaim the Void's very own project artist Lucy Ridsdale will be singing a sacred song on her rug, the very rug that gave birth to the idea to use rugs for our installation! Anyone who's heard Lucy's sacred song out on country or elsewhere will know the power and beauty of this songstress!
Reclaim the Void is a collaboration between conceptual artist Vivienne Robertson and Ngalia people represented by the Ngalia Heritage Research Council Aboriginal Corporation and guided by cultural leader Kado Muir.
Reclaim the Void is supported by Arts Impact WA, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest and thousands of volunteers who have given of their hands and hearts to this visionary project.
