Dive Into the Sonic World of Whales
Enter a realm where art, science, and technology collide as WA Museum Boola Bardip's Jubilee Hall transforms into a portal to the extraordinary through Biomass - an immersive gallery showcasing some of the most daring virtual reality and interactive installations from across the globe.
As part of this powerful sensory journey comes a Western Australia first: Seeing Echoes in the Mind of the Whale. This ground-breaking installation invites you to dive deep into the sensory universe of whales and dolphins - a world where sound shapes reality. Combining deep listening data, scientific insight, and artistic vision, it bridges the gap between human perception and the remarkable abilities of cetaceans.
Follow the journeys of three ocean giants - a bottlenose dolphin, a humpback whale, and a sperm whale. With every breath at the surface and every dive into the deep blue, your perspective shifts. Experience the ocean through their senses, and discover the unique ways these species perceive and interact with their world.
Created by the renowned, award-winning London-based art collective Marshmallow Laser Feast - known for its immersive, multisensory experiences exploring nature, science, and technology - in collaboration with Emmy nominated nature filmmaker Tom Mustill.
About the Artists
Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) is an experiential artist collective that transforms imagination into immersive reality. Their work blurs boundaries between art, XR, and film - creating multisensory journeys that challenge perceptions and deepen our connection to the living world.
From coders to poets, chemists to ventriloquists, MLF collaborates across disciplines to craft experiences that interrogate our relationship with nature and culture. Their installations have appeared in leading institutions worldwide, including ACMI, Barbican Centre, Museum of the Future, and Sundance Film Festival.
Grounded in research and alive in galleries, parks, and even the metaverse, MLF’s work invites you to explore, question, and wonder.
