Summer Youth Volunteering
We are delighted to announce our Summer Youth Volunteering Program for young people, aged 16 to 20 years, at the WA Museum Boola Bardip, will be running during January 2026. This is a short-term opportunity, with no obligation to continue, though many do choose to continue.
Front-of-House volunteering is a fun and rewarding way to get involved if you enjoy helping people, developing customer service skills, and sharing the history of Western Australia with our community. In this Front of House program, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Welcome and assist visitors in the Museum
- Support family-friendly activities
- Work as part of a friendly and supportive volunteer team
You will need to be a friendly and confident person (or keen to build confidence), with good communication skills (or a willingness to develop these), and comfortable working as part of a team. You must be respectful of all cultures, particularly Indigenous cultures. As the Museum is a public venue, you will need to be neat and presentable. Volunteers will be issued with a volunteer t-shirt, and will be asked to wear plain, modest black trousers or skirt and closed shoes.
Before applying please ensure:
- (If you are under 18 years old) you have discussed this opportunity with your family and have their support
- You can make your way to and from the Museum safely
- You are available for a half-day induction on Sunday 12 October or Saturday 15 November / You are available for two Orientation shifts in December
- You are available for at least two shifts per week during January 2026 (minimum of 8 shifts)
– Shifts times 9:30am–1:00pm and 12:45pm–4:15pm, 7 days a week
Capacity is limited to 15 applicants per induction session. If you are unable to see a session in the system, it means the program is fully booked.
All participants over 18 years will be subject to a Police Clearance. (Please wait to talk to us before arranging these checks, as they can be expensive and the Museum can assist with some of the costs if you apply through us, but we cannot reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses).
We are committed to equal opportunity and building an inclusive workplace. We embrace diversity and difference by being inclusive, fair and respectful. Please contact us at perthvolunteering@museum.wa.gov.au or call on 0434 920 099 to discuss making adjustments to the recruitment process for your accessibility requirements.
