Summer Youth Volunteering

We are delighted to announce our Youth Volunteering Program for young people, aged 16 to 20 years, at the WA Museum Boola Bardip, will be running during January 2025. This is a short-term opportunity, with no obligation to continue, though many do choose to continue.

Front-of-House volunteering is an engaging and rewarding volunteering opportunity for anybody passionate about customer service and sharing the history of our amazing state with others in our community. In this Front of House program, participants will have the opportunity to assist with a variety of family-friendly volunteer activities and help all visitors to enjoy our wonderful museum. Additionally, our participants will receive some training and mentoring to develop and produce creative content for the museum.

You will need to be an outgoing, confident person, with strong (or developing) verbal communications skills and a willingness to work in a cooperative team. You must be respectful of all cultures, particularly Indigenous cultures. As the Museum is a public venue, you will need to be neat and presentable. Volunteers will be issued with a volunteer T Shirt, and will be asked to wear plain, modest black trousers or skirt and closed shoes.

Before applying please ensure;

  • (If you are under 18 years old) you have discussed this opportunity with your family and have their support;
  • You can make your way to and from the Museum safely;
  • You are available for a half day induction on Sunday 17th November or Thursday 21st November (but please talk to us if this is a problem); and
  • You are available for at least two x half day shifts per week during January 2025 (at least 16 shifts). Shifts are available 9:30am-1:00pm and 12:45pm-4:15pm, 7 days a week.

All participants will be subject to a Police Clearance, and those over 18 years will need a Working with Children Check. (Wait to talk to us before arranging these checks, they can be expensive and we are able to help with some of the expenses if you apply through us, but we cannot reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses). Volunteers under 18 are exempt from a Working with Children Check.
