Wild Life

Discover nature's diversity

Follow cockatoo cries and a symphony of frog calls on a vibrant journey through past and present, meeting the awe-inspiring diversity of interconnected life in Western Australia.

Uncover inhabitants of deserts, forests, wetlands, woodlands, seas and cities, from spiders and snakes to carnivorous plants and coral.

See and hear the differences between the three species of the endangered black cockatoos, iconic South West residents regarded as sacred to some Nyoongar people.

Families will love the hooting and whooping of the interactive Frog Zone, looking for hidden creatures in Augmented Reality display I-Spy Spinifex, and meeting the children’s python and bobtail among the living exhibits.

Learn about minibeasts and megafauna, tall trees and fascinating fungi, or simply marvel at the 16m sauropod dinosaur model.

Illustrations by revered naturalist John Gould are a stark reminder of what we have lost; 46 of the 182 mammals he so beautifully drew are now threatened or extinct.

Perth sits in a biodiversity hotspot rich in unique species suffering major habitat loss as well as destruction caused by feral cats and foxes.

Wild Life highlights conservation efforts to sustain our State’s precious ecosystems and illustrates how they fit into the complex “tree of life” on Earth.
