Dr Glenn Moore
Curator of Fishes, Aquatic Zoology
Qualifications
BSc. (Hons.) MSc. PhD.
Glenn has been researching Western Australia’s fishes for more than 30 years, and as the Curator of Fishes and is recognised as an authority for the identification and taxonomy of both marine and freshwater fishes. Glenn is an experienced field-based researcher and his research involves taxonomy, biodiversity, biogeography, genetics, ecology and evolution. Current projects include taxonomic descriptions of new species of groupers, clingfishes, eel blennies and a range of other fish groups as well as large scale surveys documenting the distribution of Western Australia’s fishes and he is working on a new field guide to the fishes of southern Australia. He regularly uses outreach opportunities to engage with the general public, raising awareness about fishes through popular publications, media, public enquiries and citizen science initiatives. He is an active collaborator with researchers from across Australia and around the world and actively engages with traditional owners of the country he works on. Glenn also dabbles in bird research. Glenn is co-editor of the Records of the Western Australian Museum.
- Taxonomy, systematics, biodiversity and biogeography of Western Australian marine and freshwater fishes.
- Evolutionary and ecological processes driving the speciation and distribution of fishes.
- Marine fishes of the Kimberley region.
- Seahorses and pipefishes of Western Australia.
Exhibitions and Public Programs
Glenn contributes to Museum exhibits and regularly participates in a range of outreach presentations and specialist talks. Glenn active provides professional expertise in several major online citizen science initiatives.
