Join Dr Moya Smith and Dr Heather Tunmore as they take you through the landscape and excavations of an Ancient Egyptian tomb.
For thousands of years, Abydos was a place of burial, workshop, and pilgrimage. Discover its significance, the stories uncovered through excavation, and what tombs reveal about the lives and beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians.
Abydos: A sacred landscape with Dr Moya Smith and Dr Heather Tunmore
Egyptologist Heather Tunmore, Senior Epigrapher on the Abydos Middle Cemetery Project and Honorary Associate of the WA Museum, will explore Abydos, a site central to Egyptian ritual and tradition.
Dr Moya Smith, WA Museum Curator, Archaeology and Anthropology, will then share the tale of of an Early Dynastic pot from Abydos—a small object with a big story!
Excavating Egyptian tombs with Dr Heather Tunmore
Dr Heather Tunmore shares her experiences working on Old Kingdom tomb complexes over the past 40 years. Through excavations, we gain insight into the rituals, religious beliefs, and daily life of Ancient Egyptians, revealed through the objects and inscriptions left behind.
