School holidays activities

Avian Activity Corner | Free

From the Chapman River wetlands to the Abrolhos Islands’ beaches, the Mid West’s amazing birdlife is supported by several amazing organisations. Visit the Aviation Activity Corner to learn about their work with some of our most iconic species, and how you can help care for the birds we live with!

Trail: Feathered friends | $1 per trail

Feathers perform a variety of essential functions for birds beyond just flight. They can keep birds warm, camouflaged, waterproof, aerodynamic, and even help them to communicate and attract mates! Help the birds find their feathers, which are hidden throughout the Museum displays.

Bird beak craft | $1

From fishing to pecking and even hunting, birds have evolved an incredible range of beaks for different tasks. Decorate and fold your own wearable bird beak with this simple papercraft activity.

DIY Felt bird bookmarks | $3

These cute felt bookmarks feature birds from the Kimberley region, as seen in The Great Kimberley Wilderness VR experience. Take a lucky dip to get a pink and grey galah, a kookaburra, a rainbow lorikeet or a budgie. Perfect for marking your place when reading your favourite book!

Participants aged 12 and under must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian.
