A powerful celebration of shared cultural heritage from ten respected Aboriginal Elders whose lives, leadership and knowledge have shaped communities across the Goldfields.
Developed in partnership with Community Arts Network, Legacies Karlkurla (Kalgoorlie) highlights the enduring cultural, social and spiritual contributions of Elders who have preserved culture, strengthened community and guided future generations. Their stories speak to resilience, connection to Country and the living legacy of Aboriginal knowledge in the Goldfields today.
The exhibition features striking portraits by internationally acclaimed photographer Michael Jalaru Torres, capturing the strength, dignity and presence of each Elder. These visual works are complemented by heartfelt podcast conversations hosted by Spinifex Anangu broadcaster Debbie Carmody, offering audiences the opportunity to listen, reflect and connect through the Elders’ own voices.
Together, these portraits and conversations create space for learning, cultural exchange and reflection. Legacies seeks to inspire understanding, foster respect, and deepen connections between Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal people, celebrating the stories that continue to shape the Goldfields and its communities.
