Celebrate NAIDOC Week during school holidays as we recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Young ones can take part in a variety of activities as we reflect on this year's theme 'Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud.'

Activities

Community Art Piece

Take part in decorating our yarning circle mat. In this guided activity, you can put a bit of yourself into a colourful yarning mat that will go into our Aboriginal handling kit. These kits are loaned to schools around the area for use as an educational tool in the classroom.

Rain shaker

Create a musical instrument that sounds like rainfall. Using Aboriginal designed papers, balloons, foil and rice construct a shaker that has a beautiful sound of gentle falling rain.

Boomerangs

You won’t want to throw these beautifully painted boomerangs. Use our colourful dot markers to design and create your own patterns.

Aboriginal Animals

Pick one of the wooden native animal shapes, learn its Noongar name, then using colourful markers and create dynamic designs.

All activities will be guided by the Museum’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Project Officer.
