Our coastline is changing. How can we plan for the future in ways that reflect what matters most to our community?
Rising Tides: Imagining Coastal Resilience is a mixed media exhibition that brings together local voices and creative design to explore what a resilient future for Middleton Bay (Binalup/Middleton Beach to Emu Point) could look like.
The installation features collage, textiles, photography and poetry created by local Albany residents, reflecting the personal and cultural significance of this stretch of coast. Alongside are design ideas from staff and students at UWA School of Design, developed in response to the community's artworks and stories.
This project recognises that climate change is already affecting our coasts, and that planning for the long-term starts by bringing communities, researchers and creative thinkers together.
The project is funded by The UWA Oceans Institute Better Oceans program. The research has been endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) for catalysing transformative ocean science solutions for sustainable development, connecting people and our ocean.
