Discover the history of ABC radio in the Great Southern, from its arrival via the Wagin transmitter in 1926 to its evolution into the digital era, bringing local news and entertainment to regional listeners.
This talk explores ABC radio’s role in the region, from rural news, concerts, music and interviews to emergency services. Hear stories about the personalities who shaped local broadcasting and the various studios used by ABC radio in Albany since the 1950s. Special guests will share their experiences, past and present, and may even be persuaded to read some of the regional news bulletins of the time.
This event will run in conjunction with the 90 Years of ABC Great Southern: The birth of regional radio in WA exhibition.
