We are honoured to welcome respected Local Elder and Cultural Custodian Vernice Gillies as she shares her reflections on the Albany 2026 program from a Noongar perspective.

Vernice’s guidance has been fundamental to the planning of Albany 2026 from the earliest stages. Her knowledge, leadership and generosity has helped shape a program that honours Country and amplifies the voices of the Menang people, with Vernice representing community across many of the events on the calendar.

Through her reflections, Vernice speaks to the deep significance of these celebrations, not just as moments in time, but as opportunities for truthtelling, connection and pride for the community of Albany and the wider Great Southern.

Albany 2026 marks a powerful coming together: celebrating culture, strengthening relationships, and acknowledging Noongar history as living and ongoing.

We look forward to Vernice sharing her vision and thank her for her continued leadership in ensuring these celebrations are meaningful, respectful and grounded in Country.
