Learn how the creative Brierley family left a lasting impact on Albany.
In 1911, Janet and Benjamin Brierley left England with their six children in tow to start a new life in Rocky Gully. By 1935, Janet Brierley and her five daughters had moved to Albany, creating a household filled with art and creativity.
Benjamin had passed his artistic talent on to his daughter Kitty, who became a well-known artist in Albany. Together, their watercolours, sketches, and drawings can be found scattered across the State... Assuming you know where to find them!
This talk explores the Brierleys’ artistic legacy and deep ties to the Albany, from a major art sale in 2000, to an upcoming exhibition at Albany Town Hall. Hear the story of a family whose creativity helped shaped a community and left an enduring mark on Albany’s cultural landscape.
Presented by Malcolm Traill, Research Associate, Museum of the Great Southern.
