Discover the untold stories of Capt. Joseph Wakefield and Lieut. George Sleeman, the forgotten Commandants of King George Sound.
While Major Edmund Lockyer and Capt. Collet Barker are well-documented figures, the other two Commandants of the first European settlement have largely been forgotten. Researcher Lee Davison sheds light on Capt. Joseph Wakefield and Lieut. George Sleeman, two army officers whose stories have faded from public memory.
Lee Davison's research uncovers the lives and service of Commandants Capt. Joseph Wakefield and Lieut. George Sleeman. They played crucial roles in the early days of the settlement, ensuring its stability, growth and development of King George’s Sound.
Presented by Malcolm Traill, Research Associate, Museum of the Great Southern with researcher Lee Davison.
