Hear a family story of murder in Victorian London and what it revealed about society at the time.

When BBC broadcaster, writer, and historian Andrew Green uncovered the shocking murder of his great-great-great uncle in 1850s London, he unearthed more than just a family tragedy. His research led him through a city on the brink of modernity. A world where railways, the telegraph, and newspapers were transforming daily life, yet the justice system remained firmly stuck in the past, and an approach to social care left much to be desired.

This gripping true crime story exposes the contradictions of Victorian society and the flaws of a system struggling to keep up with a rapidly changing world.

Presented by Andrew Green, writer, BBC broadcaster/producer, Senior Research Fellow (and Hon Fellow) at the University of Hertfordshire.
