Albany the first stop for the amazing ANZANG

The annual ANZANG Nature Photography exhibition will begin its tour of Western Australia at the Western Australian Museum – Albany on December 7.

WA Museum – Albany regional manager Rachael Wilsher-Saa said she is delighted to host the exhibition, which celebrates the depth and diversity of nature in Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.

“ANZANG has been an absolute favourite amongst the community over the years – the Great Southern has such a wonderful landscape of its own which has undoubtedly inspired many local amateur and professional photographers,” Ms Wilsher-Saa said.

“To host this incredible array of images is a delight, and we are very much looking forward to sharing it with the people of the Albany.”

West Australian scuba diver Wayne Osborn won the overall $5000 prize for 2012 with his image of a squid school feeding mid-water in the planet’s most biodiverse marine region, Raja Ampat in Indonesia.

Judges said the image shows a natural phenomenon that is unlikely to be seen firsthand by the majority of the world’s population.

Other winners include people’s choice awardee Julie Fletcher from South Australia for her haunting Graveyard image taken at Menindee Lakes in New South Wales.

Nearly 100 finalist images make up the ANZANG exhibition, which will be on display at the Western Australian Museum – Albany from 7 December, 2012 until 3 February 2013.

The tour will then continue at the Western Australian Museum – Kalgoorlie-Boulder in March, before heading to the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle in June.

The ANZANG Nature Photography competition and exhibition is owned and run by the South Australian Museum.
