The popular ANZANG Nature Photography exhibition will return to the Western Australian Museum – Geraldton for its ninth year this May.
The ANZANG Nature Photography exhibition celebrates the depth and diversity of nature in Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea through the eyes of a photographer.
The exhibition will be opened by the Chair of the WA Museum Board of Trustees Professor Alan Robson and WA Museum Chief Executive Officer Alec Coles on 18 May, 2012.
CEO Alec Coles said the high calibre photography exhibition had attracted strong audiences in the past, and he expected this year’s exhibition to be just as popular.
“The reception from the public throughout the years ANZANG has been a part of Geraldton’s travelling exhibition program proves it has been an absolute favourite amongst the Geraldton community. We hope again this year it will inspire people to pick up their own cameras and explore the natural beauty the Mid-West region has to offer,” Mr Coles said.
This year’s overall winning image was taken by Ofer Levy who stood in chest-deep water in Parramatta Park, New South Wales, to capture the unique drinking action of the Grey-headed Flying Fox.
Mr Levy said capturing the animal in action during daylight was very rare, as they usually drink by swooping over the water and licking their wet bellies in low light at dusk.
Western Australian Tammy Gibbs’ Botanical category winning image Gotcha! Ensnared by a Sundew was taken in Kings Park when she spotting the carnivorous plant slowly devouring its prey. Ms Gibbs is the President of the Western Australian Underwater Photography Society and will travel to WA Museum - Geraldton in June to conduct a free seminar on underwater photography.
The free ANZANG Nature Photographyexhibition will be on display at the WA Museum – Geraldton from 18 May to 15 July, 2012.
The ANZANG Nature Photography competition and exhibition is owned by the South Australian Museum.
