The popular ANZANG Nature Photography exhibition celebrating the depth and diversity of nature in Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea will open at the Western Australian Maritime Museum, Fremantle on June 8, 2013.
WA Museum Chief Executive Officer Alec Coles said the extremely high calibre of photography shown in the exhibition has already attracted strong audiences at the WA Museum – Albany and Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
“The consistent enthusiastic reception from the public each year proves it to be an absolute favourite amongst WA visitors. We hope again this year it will inspire people to pick up their cameras and explore the extraordinary natural beauty this State has to offer,” Mr Coles said.
West Australian scuba diver Wayne Osborn won the overall $5000 prize for 2012 with his image of a squid school feeding mid-water in the planet’s most biodiverse marine region, Raja Ampat in Indonesia.
Judges said the image shows a natural phenomenon that is unlikely to be seen firsthand by the majority of the world’s population.
Other winners include people’s choice awardee Julie Fletcher from South Australia for her haunting Graveyard image taken at Menindee Lakes in New South Wales, and WA photographer Ashton Wright’s snap of a lunching caterpillar taken in Geraldton.
Nearly 100 finalist images make up the ANZANG exhibition, which will be on display in the WA Maritime Museum’s temporary exhibition gallery until August 4, 2013. For more information visit museum.wa.gov.au
