Barry Bellotti finalist in the 2025 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards

We're thrilled that Barry Bellotti, Regional Manager Business and Strategy at Gwoonwardu Mia, has been named a finalist in the Individual Excellence in Aboriginal Tourism category in the 2025 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards for Individual Excellence.

Barry’s leadership at Gwoonwardu Mia, a vibrant Aboriginal cultural centre on Yinggarda Country in Carnarvon, has brought to life a vision for a shared meeting place in the Gascoyne Region, where Aboriginal culture is celebrated, opportunities flourish, and community is nurtured.

Both a beloved community hub and a top attraction for travellers to the Gascoyne region, Gwoonwardu Mia continues to uphold high standards of visitor experience and set the benchmark for Aboriginal tourism more broadly, largely thanks to Barry's care and strategic leadership.

Among Barry’s many achievements are creating the Yarning Circle Program, where ten Elders share their stories and culture with both visitors and locals; developing key partnerships, including with local Aboriginal tour operator Wooramulla; and growing the Gwoonwardu Mia retail store, which has opened new pathways for local Aboriginal artists to sell their work.

Barry’s commitment to creating opportunities for Aboriginal people, promoting authentic storytelling and cultural learning, and strengthening community ties—while ensuring the future of Gwoonwardu Mia reflects the voices of all five Aboriginal language groups in the Gascoyne Region: Yinggarda, Baiyungu, Malgana, Thadgari and Thalanyji—makes him an incredibly worthy finalist.

The winner will be announced on May 28 at the 2025 Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference Dinner. Best of luck, Barry!
