Bugs OVOtake the Museum!

The Western Australian Museum has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil ® for a fun-filled Bug Wonders Workshop to be held at the WA Museum – Perth on Wednesday, May 1.

Cirque du Soleil is currently in Perth with OVO™, a show which takes audiences into the colourful world of insects.

The free workshop will allow kids to immerse themselves in hands-on activities, hear short talks from WA Museum bug experts and the assistant artistic director of OVO, see the incredible Cricket and Red Ant costumes from the show and meet some of the artists.

WA Museum curators Mark Harvey and Terry Houston will explain the amazing range of creatures that fly, creep and crawl, and host a hands-on bug hunt encouraging kids to get up close and personal with real mini-beasts.

“The free workshop is great way for kids aged four and up to learn about some of the smallest creatures in nature, and why they’re so important to our natural world,” Dr Harvey said.

“The ultimate goal is for kids to reconnect with what lives in their environment and learn how to protect and manage the delicate ecosystem of their own backyards.”

Special Cirque du Soleil guest Jen Bender, the assistant artistic director of OVO, will provide insights into OVO’s clever costume designs, the unique movements of OVO’s bug characters, and how she helps the artists in the show discover their ‘inner insect’.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to win a family pass to see OVO – currently showing under the Big Top at Langley Park, Perth, until June 9.

The Bug Wonders Workshop will take place between 10am to 12pm at the WA Museum – Perth on Wednesday, May 1. Capacity is limited; bookings can be made from 9.30am at the WA Museum – Perth reception desk on the day. No advance or phone bookings are available.
