Celebrate Western Australian yachtsman Jon Sanders’ world record triple circumnavigation of the world at the WA Maritime Museum this week.
Tomorrow, 25 May, marks 30 years since Jon Sanders departed Fremantle in Parry Endeavour, the 14-metre sloop that took him across 131,500 km of ocean and is now on display at the Maritime Museum.
WA Museum CEO Alec Coles said the Museum is proud to have the yacht in its Collection.
“It is incredible to see Parry Endeavour on display at the WA Maritime Museum and try to imagine what it must have been like to spend 658 days straight on board,” Mr Coles said.
Visitors to the Museum’s Open Day this Saturday 28 May can get up close to the vessel for the price of a gold coin donation, as well as getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the WA Museum’s fascinating maritime history collection.
“We will be opening up the A Shed next door to the Museum so people can see the heritage watercraft and other treasures which are currently in storage,” Mr Coles said.
“There will also be some classic cars and hot rods out the front of the Museum, and a photographic presentation inside showing the remarkable changes to the Perth and Fremantle landscapes since 1890.”
Entry to the WA Maritime Museum for the Open Day this Saturday 28 May is by gold coin donation. A free vintage bus service will run between the Museum and an Arthur Grady motorcycle event in Kings Square.
