Climate Change: Our Future, Our Choice has been unveiled as the new temporary exhibition at the Western Australian Museum – Geraldton.
The exhibition was developed by the Australian Museum and Scitech Discovery Centre in consultation with scientists and climate change experts, and has been on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney as well as Scitech in Perth.
Visitors will be taken on a journey with interactive displays and thought provoking statements encouraging people to consider the impacts of human activity on the environment and planet.
Geraldton Museum Regional Manager Catherine Belcher said the exhibition encourages people to consider how the choices they make today will impact upon the Earth’s future.
“Mid West residents will find the section on changing energy solutions particularly relevant given that there are many solar and wind projects in the region and more planned for the future. Other technologies such as geo-thermal and wave are also being explored in the region.”
The exhibition explores two possible future worlds - one in which humanity has taken no action to combat climate change and one in which people have taken positive action.
Two highlights of the exhibition are interactive displays interpreting the Earth’s rising sea levels and an exercise in converting the carbon footprint of everyday items, such as a hamburger.
Climate Change: Our Future, Our Choice opened on 3 December 2011 and will be on display at the WA Museum – Geraldton until 22 April, 2012. Entry to the exhibition is free.
