There are only a few days to go before the WA Museum’s AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels exhibition closes on 7 August. Visitors are urged to take advantage of this great ‘rock n roll’ exhibition before it leaves Australian shores for overseas.
WA Museum CEO Alec Coles said since the exhibition opened on 16 April it has been a huge success.
“The exhibition has attracted more than 70,000 people to date and we expect a surge of visitors before the doors close on Sunday 7 August,” Mr Coles said.
“What has been great has been the diversity of visitors – this is not just an exhibition for fans – although they, of course, love it - it is for anyone interested in contemporary music and musical culture in Australia. It is also poignant that it is here on what would have been the 65th birthday of the late Bon Scott – one of Fremantle’s most famous sons.
“This is a celebratory exhibition packed with more than 400 items, including objects, photographs, video clips and interviews, gig posters, letters and lyrics, personal memorabilia and costumes.
“Visitors can also see concert footage on a big screen – it’s like being at a gig!
Inspiration for the exhibition came from the band’s mantra that they have only ever played ‘good, hard rock and roll’ – and by their extraordinarily productive work ethic that produced more than 18 original albums and 60 tours to every part of the world.
Mr Coles said the exhibition is the result of a strong collaboration between the WA Museum and the Arts Centre Melbourne in association with AC/DC, Albert Music and Sony Music.
“It provides the public with an opportunity to get up close and personal to one of the world’s most successful bands and, as the name suggests, one of Australia’s cultural treasures.”
Entry to AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels exhibition at the Western Australian Museum in Perth is free. The Museum is open daily from 9:30am until 5:00pm.
