Immerse yourself at the Royal Show

Visitors to the IGA Perth Royal Show will be plunged into an underwater world of technology and discovery at the Western Australian Museum’s Immerse: Exploring the Deep exhibition in the Resources Exhibit.

WA Museum Chief Executive Officer Alec Coles said that bringing Immerse to the Royal Show creates a great opportunity for the wider community to catch a glimpse at an important sector of Western Australian industry.

“Since hard-hat diving was introduced to the pearling industry in the 1860s, Western Australia has been at the forefront of subsea technological innovation,” Mr Coles said

Immerse is the first interactive exhibition in Australia to showcase the amazing technology allowing people to go places and do things once thought impossible.”

Telling the Western Australian marine exploration story, Immerse focuses on the use of technological innovations in the oil and gas sector, the search for significant shipwrecks such as HMAS Sydney (II) and the investigation of the flora and fauna of the world’s oceans.

Show-goers can try their hand at operating the Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle, or check out a JIM atmospheric diving suit just like the one in the James Bond film ‘For Your Eyes Only’.

Immerse is a great celebration of Western Australian technology, and the WA Museum is proud to bring this unique exhibition to the Perth Royal Show, enabling thousands to experience an insight into not only the resources industry and the technology that facilitates it, but also the work of the Museum,” Mr Coles said.

Immerse has been developed by the Western Australian Museum and the Perth branch of the Society for Underwater Technology, and was made possible through support from Woodside.

Immerse: Exploring the Deep will be on display in the Resources Exhibit located next to gate 1 at the Perth Royal Show from 29 September until 6 October.
