Join climate change locals to mark the start of International Year of Sustainable Energy for All

The Western Australian Museum Geraldton, along with Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) and Pollinators Inc, are holding a public morning tea at the Museum on Tuesday 17 January, 2012 to celebrate the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.

From 16 – 18 January 2012 the United Nations will launch International Year of Sustainable Energy for All at the World Future Energy Summit in Dubai.

To mark this occasion and to highlight the issues and opportunities for sustainable energy in the Mid West region, the Museum is hosting a morning tea with guest speakers and a chance to see its current exhibition Climate Change: Our Future Our Choice.

WA Museum Regional Manager Catherine Belcher said the morning tea is a good opportunity to meet some of the people working on energy and climate change related projects in the region.

“We are looking forward to joining with NACC and Pollinators Inc to host this morning tea. Visitors will have an opportunity to connect with passionate people and organisations who are providing alternatives and solutions to sustainability challenges right here in our community,” Ms Belcher said.

Climate Change Coordinator for NACC, Mark Canny said NACC is keen to develop partnerships in the Mid West region to leverage outcomes in renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon farming while protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of our natural resources through on-ground activities.

“We can assist business and community with energy/sustainability actions as well as provide current information on climate change mitigation/adaptation initiatives in the region,” said Mr Canny.

Executive Officer, Andrew Outhwaite said Pollinators Inc has many members that are leading businesses, community action or policy change aligned with energy efficiency, renewable energy use and more equitable access to reliable clean energy in the Geraldton region.

“Pollinators Inc is supporting entrepreneurs tackling the sustainable energy challenge in our region through its leadership development programs, workspace, and peer networks,” Mr Outhwaite said.

The WA Museum Geraldton is showing Climate Change: Our Future Our Choice until 22 April 2012. This travelling exhibition was developed by the Australian Museum and Scitech and features a Changing Energy section that looks at examples inside WA including the Mid West region.
