Life in the Great Barrier Reef - VR experience

Dive into the living heart of one of the world's most spectacular natural wonders.

Life in the Great Barrier Reef has arrived at the WA Maritime Museum, with sessions available until 8 November 2026.

This breathtaking 360° virtual reality journey explores the UNESCO World Heritage-listed marine park, giving Western Australians the chance to experience one of the planet's most extraordinary ecosystems without leaving dry land.

Visitors swim alongside turtles, manta rays, sharks and whales—witnessing rare dolphin behaviour, spectacular coral spawning, and the vibrant diversity of reef life.

The experience was created by Perth’s White Spark Pictures and its WA technology sister company Surround Sync®, which developed custom 8K 360° underwater camera rigs to capture coral ecosystems and intimate marine encounters in exceptional detail.

The journey extends beyond the reef to the ancient Daintree Rainforest—the only place on Earth where two UNESCO World Heritage sites meet.

Guided by Traditional Owners, reef stewards and leading scientists, visitors discover the deep connections between land, sea and climate, revealing the complexity and interdependence of these environments. Their insights ensure Land and Sea Country are represented with accuracy, respect and authenticity.

Through world-first footage and powerful first-hand insights, visitors will discover how coral bleaching, extreme weather events and other global pressures are reshaping the reef—and the critical work underway to protect and restore this remarkable ecosystem.

Life in the Great Barrier Reef is a White Spark Pictures production, created in collaboration with the Western Australian Museum, the National Museum of Australia and Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum.
