The Western Australian Museum’s Development Service team will head to the Kimberley region on Friday April 26 to meet with local organisations and community groups.
The Development Service’s acting manager Clare-Frances Craig said the main reason for the two-week trip is to support regional community groups in caring for their own collections.
“We visit art galleries, libraries, resource and language centres, as well as historical societies as part of the WA Museum’s mission to deliver a state-wide service developing partnerships with regional communities, businesses and industry to share resources, knowledge and expertise,” Ms Craig said.
The Development Service offers information and advice on all aspects of the planning, operation and management of collections as community assets.
Services are tailored to assist organisations to achieve the principles outlined in the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries.
Starting and finishing in Broome, the team will make a total of twenty stops via Derby, Kununurra, Wyndham, Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing.
The stops will include visits to a range of community organisations in Broome, Kununurra and Wyndham, and the Derby and Kununurra libraries.
The team will also visit Waringarri Arts, Warmun Gallery and Museum, Mangkaja Arts, Mowanjum Arts, Wharfinger House Museum and the St John of God Archive in Broome.
Ms Craig said the workshops could be made available to members of the general public at the discretion of the individual group, which sometimes charged a small fee. Anyone interested in attending should contact their local group directly.
