Albany Then & Now: Historical Panoramas of Menang Noongar Boodja is an invitation to journey through time and place, bringing together stories of Albany's past and present in a way that feels immersive, personal and deeply connected to the land.
Enter a sweeping curved-screen experience, where panoramic views evolve as you watch, narrated by local historians and experts. These audio-visual journeys reveal the contrasts and connections that have shaped Albany, from its deep Menang heritage to its vibrant modern identity.
Beyond the screen, an interactive kiosks invite you to explore at your own pace. Slide through the decades, zoom into small details and uncover photographs and hidden stories. In the Hub Zone, a space designed for children, you can explore Albany's history through creative engagement, drawing tables, building blocks and an interactive wall introduces design concepts in a fun and engaging way.
During the school holidays, kids can create their own Then & Now postcards by stamping, stencilling or designing images of Albany’s historic ships, whales, early buildings and Menang culture alongside modern-day Albany. Each postcard can be personalised, sent to someone special, or added to a colourful postcard wall display in the Co-Op windows.
Visitors can also travel through time in the Then & Now Photobooth. Don a themed costume from Albany's past or present, strike your best pose, snap a Polaroid that’s worth a thousand yesteryears and take home with a memorable keepsake.
Albany Then & Now: Historical Panoramas of Menang Noongar Boodja is a free exhibition open at the Museum of the Great Southern from 12 December 2025 to 1 June 2026.
