WA Museum Boola Bardip celebrates 5 years since opening

Five years ago today, the world-class WA Museum Bool Bardip officially opened to the public after a $400 million rebuild.

The Museum opened with a nine-day festival where more than 50,000 people visited the site and a release of a new film showcasing the new facility to international audiences. The film featured Australian rock band Eskimo Joe and singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly leading an all-star cast in a series of short films shot exclusively in and around the new museum.

With the world in the grips of COVID-19, interstate and international visitors were unable to travel to WA to enjoy the new museum, the films were produced to take the museum to these audiences. Still available on the WA Museum YouTube channel, the films continue to be an exceptional display of Western Australian creative works inspired by the new museum. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKsvb3AsMnZTdzChuBaVNmo8tm47aUt86

Since opening, WA Museum Boola Bardip has been recognised for its award-winning design, strong community engagement and tourism offering. As recently as two-weeks ago, the WA Museum Boola Bardip was awarded Gold at the WA Tourism Awards for Major Tourist Attraction. Being the third year in a row winning this category, the WA Museum Boola Bardip has now entered the WA Tourism Hall of Fame. The Museum also received silver in Cultural Tourist Attraction and bronze for Excellence in Accessible Tourism.

In the five years since opening, WA Museum Boola Bardip has hosted a series of highly successful local, interstate and international temporary exhibitions to compliment the vast collection across the permanent galleries. Of course, none more successful than the Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor, exhibition which has now welcomed more than 180,000 visitors.
