The Western Australian Museum is proud to see WA Museum Boola Bardip, the WA Maritime Museum, and the WA Shipwrecks Museum ranked among the top ten per cent of attractions worldwide in 2025, based on Tripadvisor traveller reviews from the past year.
WA Museum Boola Bardip, with an average 4-star rating on Tripadvisor, is regularly praised for its highly interactive and informative displays across eight permanent galleries that spotlight the people, places, and stories of Western Australia. Visitors enjoy a wide range of tours, including the ever-popular Highlights Tour, as well as the Museum’s award-winning architecture and accessible and family programs.
For two years running, Boola Bardip has taken out the top prize in the Tourism Council WA’s Major Tourist Attraction award. It’s the ultimate gateway for both locals and visitors to explore Western Australia's rich stories and treasures — all from the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge.
This year, visitors have raved about The Great Kimberley Wilderness, a VR film experience that made its global debut at the Museum in 2024; Spinifex People: Art and stories of Pila Nguru, the largest collection of works by Spinifex Artists ever exhibited together; and of course, the chance to glimpse the mighty ‘Otto’ the blue whale in Hackett Hall.
WA Maritime Museum, with an average 4.4-star rating, is often named a favourite stop for people visiting or spending the day in Fremantle. Overlooking the picturesque Fremantle Port — where the Swan River meets the Indian Ocean — the Museum features visitor favourites like the HMAS Ovens Tour, which offers a rare opportunity to step inside an 89-metre Cold War-era submarine, and the legendary America’s Cup–winning yacht Australia II. It also hosts a wide range of exhibitions, objects, and public programs that explore WA’s deep maritime history and heritage.
The WA Maritime Museum was crowned top tourism attraction 2024 at Fremantle Business Awards, and just recently launched the brand new WA Down Under Gallery, giving visitors an incredibly detailed look at the life and habitats of WA’s expansive coastline and the iconic Swan River / Derbarl Yerrigan.
The WA Shipwrecks Museum, with an average 4.6-star Tripadvisor rating, is recognised as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the southern hemisphere. Housed in the beautiful 1850s Commissariat building, this Museum is loved by kids and adults alike and is often the first pit stop for visitors wanting to learn more about the stories of shipwrecks off the shore of Fremantle and beyond.
Steeped in history, the galleries house hundreds of relics from ships wrecked along WA’s treacherous coastline, including the original timbers from Batavia (wrecked in 1629), the de Vlamingh Dish, and countless artefacts from the Dutch shipwrecks Zuytdorp, Zeewijk, and Vergulde Draeck.
