The Western Australian Museum has taken out top honours at the 2011 Australian Web Awards.
The WA Museum won first prize in two categories; Arts and Culture for its AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels exhibition website, and Government for its Pseudoscorpions of the World website.
The two sites were judged against a competition of web development agencies from Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Chief executive officer of the WA Museum Alec Coles said the WA Museum had done exceptionally well winning an Australian Web Award for the fifth year running.
“The WA Museum is leading the way in innovative website development and has successfully represented the WA Government at the Australian Web Awards.
“I am delighted that the Museum has been recognised for creating and sharing information with people from around the world, and they in turn can experience the diversity and creativity of WA through our website,” he said.
The website for AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels was a collaboration between the Western Australian Museum and the Arts Centre, Melbourne and was developed for the exhibition’s Australian tour through 2011.
The website was praised for ease of navigation and its rich content.
The WA Museum’s website will be now be used for the international tour of the Arts Centre, Melbourne’s touring schedule of the AC/DC exhibition.

Pseudoscorpions of the World, which took top prize in the government category, is one of the world’s leading scientific resources about tiny arachnids.
The new taxon browser presents an innovative way to navigate through large amounts of scientific information in a simple and efficient manner. It is currently used by ecologists, land managers and leading scientists internationally.
