About your presenter

Jolene Ellat is a domestic family violence (DFV) and sexual violence specialist. Jolene brings to DART Group over 15 years of experience and expertise through varying roles across the DFV sector. Jolene Ellat is also the founder and Director of the Domestic Abuse Resource and Training Group (DART Group).

Jolene has worked across non-government and government departments ensuring best practices in the area of DFV. During her early career, Jolene worked with family law services in varying coordinated response and managerial roles. Jolene went on to provide women’s advocacy across Western Australia as well as provide clinical interviews and forensic reports to the Department of Justice for perpetrators of violence before facilitating the Connect and Respect, 3-month men’s behaviour change program. Jolene provided statewide coordination of the Connect and Respect program funded through the Department of Justice. A highlight in Jolene’s career within the Program was the successful implementation of the COVID-19 program response to ensure women's and children’s safety whilst ensuring perpetrator accountability through engagement during lockdowns. This included the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the statewide response to COVID-19 through program delivery.

Jolene later worked with a number of peak bodies implementing the COVID-19 response (funded through the Department of Communities) to ensure perpetrator visibility across Western Australia throughout COVID-19 and into economic recovery. This involved consultations with organisations across the state who worked with or intersected with DFV. Jolene delivered this through small project work, consultations, training, policy review, procedural review and pilot programs. Jolene’s highlight during this time was the work she conducted across the state in supporting the Family Domestic Violence Response Teams (FDVRTs) including Police (WAPOL). Jolene has overseen several projects nationally including the evaluation and recommendations towards the ACT’s Family Violence Safety Action Pilot. Jolene has also been an active contributor to policy and frameworks across Western Australia.

As one of Western Australia’s leading Safe and Together trainers, Jolene in the last 12 months, has personally delivered the internationally recognised 4-day CORE training to over 360 staff across varying roles within Western Australia. Her most recent training and one of its first were delivered to the FDVRT Teams across the state.

More recently, Jolene has supported the Strategy and Capabilities team within Learning and Development at the Department of Communities, developing and delivering the DFV capabilities across the state.  Jolene has provided DFV-informed training to an additional 340 front-line workers throughout the Department of Communities and sector.

Jolene has sat on several committees and collaborated with networks across Australia including hosting Community of Practice events.

Jolene has a sound academic background completing a Bachelor of Arts Education/Psychology from Edith Cowan University, A Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Studies and Human Rights from Curtin University and a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy from Notre Dame. More recently, Jolene completed a Professional Certificate in Childhood Trauma from the University of South Australia.

Jolene has presented nationally and internationally at several conferences and has been a guest speaker on a number of live panels. Jolene has a special interest in cultural diversity and competency when working with families from diverse backgrounds.

Jolene has a passion to ensure domestic violence-informed practice standards are maintained through training, supervision and consultation across organisations that intersect with families that may be experiencing or at risk of experiencing DFV and sexual violence.
