200 Years... 200 Words Writing Competition Terms and Conditions
General
The Promoter of the 200 Years 200 Words Writing Competition (“Competition”) is the Western Australian Museum ("Promoter").
How to enter
To enter the competition, email your entry to greatsouthern@museum.wa.gov.au with the subject line: 200 Years 200 Words Writing Competition. Include: name, age, phone number, email address. There is no limit on how many times you can enter.
To be eligible, entry submissions must be received between 12pm Wednesday 4 February 2026 (AWST) and closes at 4pm Friday 6 March 2026 (AWST). Winners will be announced within 7 days of the competition closing date. Entries will only be accepted during the competition period.
Who can enter
Anyone who enters the competition as stated above is eligible to win.
Employees or agents of the WA Museum or their immediate family members are not eligible to enter the Competition.
Prizes on offer
- Prizes awarded in each category.
- Winning entries may be published online and displayed at community events.
- Winners will be notified by email and phone.
- The prize is non-transferable, non-exchangeable and not redeemable for cash.
Open, close and draw dates
The competition opens on 12pm Wednesday 4 February 2026 (AWST) and closes at 4pm Friday 6 March 2026 (AWST). The winner will be announced within 7 days of the competition closing date.
To claim the prize, the winner must respond to the WA Museum notice of winning. The prize must be claimed within two (2) business days of notification. WA Museum will provide details on how and where to collect the prize at the time of notification.
If the prize is not claimed within two (2) business days, the Promoter will conduct further draws at the same time of day as the original draw to distribute the unclaimed prize. The winner of any unclaimed prize draw will be notified by Instagram message and must claim the prize within two (2) business days of notification. If the prize is still unclaimed, the Promoter may conduct additional draws after two (2) business days have passed.
The Promotor will randomly select and determine the prize winners at its absolute discretion.
Publicity of Competition
- It is a condition of entry in the Competition that the WA Museum has the right to publish the name, comment, image, voice, photograph or video of entrants (“Materials”) for any matter incidental to the Competition or the promotion or marketing of the WA Museum.
- The WA Museum may use your Materials in any medium, be it on its website, through other electronic means, or in any other reasonable manner that aligns with the purpose of the Competition and the promotion of the WA Museum.
Privacy and miscellaneous
- The Promoter will collect, use and manage personal information provided in each entry in accordance with its privacy policy and membership terms and conditions.
- All entries become the property of the Promotor once submitted.
- By submitting an entry, the entrant acknowledges and agrees that it is giving the Promoter permission to use their entry for marketing, publicity or promotional purposes.
- Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promotor (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity) whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Competition, including, but not limited to, liabilities arising from or in connection with:
- any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control)
- any theft, unauthorised access or third-party interference;
- any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter;
- any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions;
- any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant;
- redemption of the prize; and
- participation in the Competition
Cancellation
The WA Museum reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or otherwise close the competition earlier than stated in these terms and conditions for safety, security, technical failures, or any other cause that affects the proper administration, fairness, or security of the Competition.
You acknowledge and accept the above terms and conditions by entering this competition.
