Essential information before you book

This event has now finished. Please visit Tours & events to see what’s on at the Museum.

Have you ever come face-to-face with a decorator crab or had the pleasure of meeting a colourful nudibranch? (That’s sea slug to you!)

Maybe the colourful displays of Birds of Paradise are more your thing?

Join us as we delve into some of the fashion statements of the natural world for inspiration before finding your own unique style using recycled materials to create your own wearable item to take home.

During this program, participants will:

  • Take inspiration from the ‘fashion sense’ of some extraordinary living species;
  • Consider the concepts of recycling and upcycling;
  • Design and make a small wearable object to take home using recycled and upcycled materials.

No sticky tape will be used in the creation of items.

Please note under strict guidance participants will be using a range of crafting tools which may include:

  • Scissors
  • Hot glue guns
  • Jewellery pliers
  • Tweezers
  • Plastic sewing needles
  • A stitching awl

Drop and leave programs

Drop and leave programs enable juniors to experience the Museum independently, discover and learn something new in an area of interest and access materials and resources that would not normally be available at home. All programs are managed and monitored by our experienced Learning and Engagement staff.
