Perth Symphony Orchestra unveils a vivid musical portrait tracing Ben Eltons’s rise through Britain’s alternative comedy revolution of the 1980s and his evolution into one of WA’s most celebrated adopted creatives who has brought global acclaim to our arts scene over the past 40 years.
There’s the comedy the world knows, and then there’s the love story that brought him to Western Australia. From The Young Ones and Blackadder to Mr. Bean and We Will Rock You, Ben helped shape a generation of comedy with razor-sharp satire, political bite and fearless humour. Beyond the public persona lies the lesser-known story of a British provocateur who crossed the world and found a home in Western Australia.
Presented in a dynamic vocal-led format featuring trio vocals, piano, rhythm section, strings and brass, the performance blends storytelling with music that shaped Ben’s world, including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Proclaimers, The Specials and Noël Coward. Guiding audiences through the story is acclaimed comedian Sam Longley, bringing warmth, wit and insight to a story built on contradiction, courage, comedy and romance.
Part of PSO’s WA Stories series, honouring the icons who helped shape our state.
