Young BIPOC visual artists of all skill levels are invited to develop their practice in painting and portraiture.

Whether an experienced artist or a beginner, learn new skills and perspectives about expressing identity and experiences through paintings with the guidance of Tyrown Waigana, a Wardandi Nyoongar and Ait Koedhal artist.

All materials will be provided, just bring your ideas!


Tyrown Waigana is an artist and designer with Australian Indigenous heritage. His background can be traced to Wardandi Nyoongar people from south-western Western Australia and Ait Koedal people from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait. Waigana's practice includes graphic design, illustration, painting, animation, and sculpture. He take on a variety of projects, from corporate commissions to highly conceptual fine art, and much more.


The Lester Prize is one of the country’s most recognised and prestigious fine art prizes – an award that places artists and the community proudly front and centre. The Lester Prize is managed by The Lester Inc, a not-for-profit organisation. It was formerly ARTrinsic Inc which was founded in 2007 by Tina Wilson to provide an avenue for artists to exhibit works of portraiture within Western Australia.


Since 2011, Propel's KickstART Festival has been the flagship metropolitan event for Youth Week WA. KickstART has grown into a large-scale youth festival offering young people in WA – primarily aged between 12 and 26 – free opportunities to be creative, develop their skills, showcase their work to the community, and to find out about the arts organisations, cultural institutions, and service providers available to them.
