Create your own stop motion movie!

In this creative, hands-on workshop, you'll explore the Museum's galleries for inspiration before dreaming up your own story, designing colourful clay characters and building miniature movie sets. Then it's lights, camera, action as you learn how to animate your creations frame by frame and edit them into your very own short film.

Perfect for creative minds, this workshop combines art, storytelling and digital technology while introducing the fundamentals of animation in a fun and engaging way.

What to expect

Your animation adventure includes:

  • Exploring the Museum's galleries for creative inspiration.
  • Planning your story with a simple storyboard.
  • Sculpting clay characters and building miniature scenes.
  • Learning stop-motion animation and editing techniques.
  • Screening your finished film with the group before taking it home on your USB.

What to bring

We’ll provide all materials and technical equipment for the day.  You just need to bring:
  • your lunch
  • water bottle
  • a 4GB USB to take your film home.

Drop and Leave Holiday Programs

Drop and leave programs enable children and young people to experience the Museum independently, discover and learn something new in an area of interest and access materials and resources that would not normally be available at home.

All programs are managed and monitored by our experienced Learning and Engagement staff.

Don't take our word for it. Here's what some of our past participants had to say:

"I think claymation was the best idea for a school holiday program. I want to do it every holidays for the next few years!"   Michael 9 years
